Free agent outfielder Leody Taveras is expected to join the Orioles on a one-year, $2 million deal, as reported by the
New York Post’s Jon Heyman and Spanish broadcaster Mike Rodriguez.
The 27-year-old switch-hitter played in 58 games this season, with a batting average of .205, three home runs, 17 RBIs, and a .530 OPS. He also stole nine bases in 12 attempts.
In 2024, Taveras played 151 games with the Rangers, hitting .229, with 12 home runs, 44 RBIs, and a .641 OPS. He successfully stole 23 bases in 29 attempts.
After June 7th, he was assigned to Triple-A Tacoma, where he hit .280 with an .804 OPS, 11 home runs, 69 RBIs, and 23 steals in 24 attempts.
The Orioles need to clear space on their 40-man roster for Taveras, who has not played in the majors since June. The team must make room for him before official signing.
