Joe Coleman delivered an outstanding performance as goalkeeper for Herne Bay in their recent derby against Faversham, earning him the man-of-the-match award.
The match ended in a 1-1 draw in the Isthmian South East league, with Herne Bay equalizing through a penalty in the 87th minute. Coleman's crucial late saves helped secure the point for the Lilywhites, thrilling fans with a dramatic finish.
“Joe Coleman got man-of-the-match. That was announced in about the 89th minute and everyone was a bit like ‘Really?!’. He then proceeded to make two saves. Maybe whoever picked it, they need to do the lottery numbers! Before that, there were probably four or five that deserved it (the man-of-the-match award).”
Centre-back and player-manager Liam Friend humorously praised Coleman's performance and noted the competition for the award among several players.
Despite the initial surprise over the choice of man-of-the-match, Coleman's late heroics proved decisive in securing the draw.
