Gov. Wes Moore Initiates Maryland Redistricting Efforts
As the midterm elections approach, Maryland Gov. Wes Moore has announced the revival of the Governor’s Redistricting Advisory Commission to recommend new congressional maps.
The commission, which has historically met every decade to redraw legislative and congressional maps based on Census results, will be chaired by Angela Alsobrooks, the former Prince George’s County executive.
“My commitment has been clear from day one — we will explore every avenue possible to make sure Maryland has fair and representative maps,”
Moore stated in a news release. This effort comes amid a national battle over voter maps, with U.S. President Donald Trump trying to prevent Democrats from gaining seats in Congress.
The commission's goal is to ensure that Maryland has fair and representative maps, reflecting the state's demographic changes.
