The rivalry between the Goulburn Valley League and the Ovens and Murray League has come to an end, at least for now.
The Ovens and Murray League has signed a two-year interleague deal with the Bendigo Football Netball League, closing the chapter on a long-standing competition for the Ash-Wilson Trophy that began in 1954.
Recently, the O&M has had the upper hand, winning three out of four matches between 2022-2025.
According to operations manager Brad Noonan, the GVL was only informed of the decision last week and it is unclear if they have an alternative interleague opponent lined up for the next two years.
The fortunes have favoured the black and gold in recent years.
