Hawks bust sophisticated fake booze factory in Howick
A container was detained at the MSC depot in Durban earlier this month, leading to the seizure of counterfeit goods at the weekend.
According to spokesperson Sibu Ncane, the container allegedly contained counterfeit Smirnoff-branded bottles, closures, and stickers, destined for a property on Ogilvie Road in Howick.
Hawks members from Durban and Maritzburg raided the premises on Saturday, uncovering a range of sophisticated machines used in the production of counterfeit Smirnoff 1818 bottles, including:
- bottle blowing machine
- high pressure compressor
- evaporation temperature machine
- industrial chiller
- fine compressor filters
- various sizes of counterfeit Smirnoff 1818 bottles
