Rail minister Lord Hendy visited Britain's newest station, after it opened to passengers yesterday morning.
The station, Beaulieu Park in north Chelmsford, was built with £141 million from the Government's Housing Infrastructure Fund, £12 million from the South-East Local Enterprise Partnership, and £22 million from the developers of Beaulieu.
The first train to call was the 07.20 to London Liverpool Street, with up to four trains an hour during peak times, operated by Greater Anglia, which was nationalised earlier this month.
