Gov. Kathy Hochul criticized Rep. Elise Stefanik for contributing to a culture of extreme rhetoric after a report revealed that members of the New York Young Republican Club traded racist, misogynistic, and antisemitic texts.
A report by Politico found that at least four members of the club participated in a group chat on Telegram, making offensive jokes about rape, slavery, Adolf Hitler, and gas chambers.
Stefanik has said she’s weighing a challenge to Hochul’s re-election bid and earlier this year accepted an award from the New York State Young Republicans.
Hochul argued that Stefanik's association with the group has helped normalize extreme rhetoric.
