South Africa's energy transition, along with similar global efforts, is driving the demand for power transformers as nations upgrade and expand their power grids to meet rising energy needs.
However, this shift towards renewable energy has exposed a critical infrastructure gap: a severe shortage of transformers. The demand for transformers, essential for transmission and distribution, has surged beyond current global supply capabilities.
The location of renewable sources, such as solar and wind, often far from existing grid infrastructure, has further exacerbated the issue.
SA’s transformer manufacturing can bridge local and national grid gaps, boost energy security, and tap global market demand.
