Fortescue Metals is cutting hundreds of jobs in the UK and Australia as it shifts its focus to R&D and sends manufacturing to China.
This decision affects Fortescue Zero and comes as the company aims to reach its "real zero" target by 2030, meaning no gas or diesel will be burned at its Pilbara iron ore operations.
Fortescue needs up to 400 huge 240 tonne electric haul trucks for transporting ore at its mines, with half to be built by China's XCMG.
The company is ramping up the rollout of new technologies to achieve this goal.
