Lawsuit calls on SSA to release records on ‘customer service breakdowns’

Lawsuit Against SSA for "Customer Service Breakdowns"

A nonprofit legal group, Democracy Forward, has filed a lawsuit against the Social Security Administration (SSA) to release records on recent internal changes and service disruptions.

The lawsuit alleges that the SSA failed to fully respond to multiple Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests, which sought details on workforce reductions, cuts to phone services, and the elimination of customer service metrics on the agency's website.

These changes prompted longer wait times, payment delays and "confusion for beneficiaries in vulnerable situations,"

according to the lawsuit. The changes, which took place under the Trump administration, have caused widespread service disruptions for millions of Americans.

Democracy Forward is calling on the SSA to release the requested records, citing the need for transparency and accountability.

Author's summary: Lawsuit demands SSA transparency on service disruptions.
