The West Lyon Wildcats are champions once again, claiming their seventh state football title. The Wildcats faced Regina from Iowa City at the UNI-Dome, winning the state title 34-27 after the game went into overtime.
The game started around 4 p.m. Thursday, with West Lyon taking the early lead by scoring the only touchdown in the first quarter. Regina answered strongly in the second, scoring 17 points and blocking the Wildcats’ only second-quarter touchdown. At halftime, Regina led 17-13.

The third quarter featured limited scoring, Regina adding a field goal to make it 20-13 heading into the fourth. The Wildcats mounted a comeback, scoring two touchdowns while Regina added one. By the final seconds, the score was tied 27-27.
With two seconds left on the clock, the Wildcats attempted a field goal to win, but it was blocked by Regina’s defense, sending the game to overtime.
In overtime, West Lyon possessed first and converted with a touchdown, sealing the 34-27 victory.
