Sky Sports picks up Europa League & Conference League rights

Sky Sports secures European football rights from 2027/28

Sky Sports has obtained the broadcasting rights to the UEFA Europa League and UEFA Conference League starting from the 2027/28 season. This deal ensures all 342 matches across both competitions will be available to Sky customers.

The broadcaster will air these tournaments alongside its existing portfolio, which includes the Premier League, the English Football League (EFL), and the Women's Super League (WSL). By securing this agreement, Sky strengthens its position as a major home of football in the United Kingdom.

TNT Sports loses UEFA coverage

Currently, Europa and Conference League matches are shown by TNT Sports. From the same 2027/28 season, TNT will also lose the rights to the UEFA Champions League, which will move to Paramount and Prime Video.

“Ultimately we remained committed to the approach that made financial sense for our business, and for our customers. TNT Sports retains a strong portfolio of football with our coverage of the Premier League, newly acquired Emirates FA Cup and Adobe Women’s FA Cup rights.”

This statement, given to The Guardian, indicates TNT Sports chose not to match the higher bids made by its competitors.

Sky celebrates return of European tournaments

“I’m proud that we’re able to bring European football competitions back to Sky customers. The UEFA Europa League and Conference League have delivered some of the most exciting European stories in recent years, with English clubs consistently performing strongly and lifting trophies.”

Jonathan Licht, Sky’s Chief Sports Officer, emphasized that the agreement underlines the company’s commitment to delivering top-level football, made possible by the strength of its brand and business model.

Author’s summary
