Bangladesh took full control of the first Test against Ireland in Sylhet, ending the second day on 338 for one and leading by 52 runs. Opener Mahmudul Hasan Joy led the charge with a superb unbeaten 169.
Mahmudul Hasan Joy and Shadman Islam opened with a 168-run stand that set the tone for the innings. Shadman, who made 80, was caught behind by Lorcan Tucker off Matthew Humphreys in the 42nd over — Ireland’s only breakthrough of the day.
At stumps, Joy was unbeaten on 169, joined by Mominul Haque, who contributed a steady 80 not out. Their unbroken partnership of 170 runs left Bangladesh comfortably ahead.
Ireland had earlier resumed their first innings on 270 for eight but managed to add only 16 more runs before being dismissed for 286. Barry McCarthy top-scored among the tailenders with 31 before falling as the final wicket.
The best of Bangladesh’s bowlers in Ireland’s innings were Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who took three wickets for 50 runs, Hasan Murad with 2 for 47, and Taijul Islam with 2 for 78.
