First Ghost Shark swims off Anduril’s new Australian factory floor - Asian Military Review

Anduril Australia Launches Ghost Shark Production Facility

On 31 October 2025, Anduril Australia inaugurated its new 7,400m² factory in Sydney dedicated to manufacturing the Ghost Shark underwater vehicles for the Royal Australian Navy (RAN).

Facility Opening and First Vehicle Rollout

The opening event was attended by Minister for Defence Industry Pat Conroy and Chief of Navy Vice Admiral Mark Hammond. During the ceremony, the first series-produced Ghost Shark extra-large autonomous underwater vehicle (XLAUV) was unveiled ahead of its delivery schedule.

“The Ghost Shark is the most high-tech, long-range autonomous underwater capability that exists in the world today….”
— Minister Pat Conroy

Contract and Production Status

This achievement follows a major milestone, as the RAN awarded Anduril a A$1.7 billion (US$1.1 billion) programme-of-record contract seven weeks prior. The initial Ghost Shark is ready for in-water testing and is expected to be delivered to the RAN by January 2026. Additional vehicles will be produced over the next five years.

Anduril is currently in the low-rate initial production phase and plans to scale up to full production in 2026.

Significance of the Project

Minister Conroy emphasized the collaboration behind this project:

“This project is an exemplar of how the government and Defence are partnering with innovative companies to rapidly deliver capability to the warfighter.”

Prototype Development

Before this contract, Anduril Australia co-developed and built three Ghost Shark prototypes under a three-year A$140 million (US$92 million) agreement.

Summary: Anduril Australia's new Sydney factory marks a key step in delivering advanced autonomous underwater vehicles to the Royal Australian Navy through a major government contract and innovative collaboration.
