On Sunday, November 9, Wirral will pause in solemn remembrance as residents gather across the borough to honor those who gave their lives in service. The central ceremony will take place at the Cenotaph in Hamilton Square, Birkenhead, beginning at 10:55 a.m.
The event will be led by the Mayor of Wirral, Councillor Brian Kenny, with a two-minute silence observed at 11:00 a.m., followed by a traditional Service of Remembrance conducted by Reverend Paul Bentley, Vicar of Birkenhead Priory Parish and Rural Dean of Birkenhead.
Additional readings and blessings will be delivered by The Right Reverend Julie Conalty, Bishop of Birkenhead, and Reverend Debbie Wilkinson, Wirral Waters Mission Lead. Following the prayers, the Mayor will place a wreath at the Cenotaph on behalf of the people of Wirral.
Deputy Lieutenant Sue Higginson OBE DL will lay a wreath on behalf of His Majesty The King.
Representatives from Wirral Council, the armed forces, local organizations, and families of fallen service personnel will also pay their respects. The ceremony will conclude with a parade and salute led by the 107 Field Squadron, Royal Engineers.
After the formal service, the public will be invited to place their own tributes at the Cenotaph. A digital copy of the service sheet is available for download on the Council’s website.
