Jordan Staal reached a major milestone by breaking the record for most games played as a Carolina Hurricane, appearing in his 910th game. The team captain, 37, surpassed his brother Eric Staal and helped lead the Hurricanes to a 4–3 win over the Minnesota Wild on Thursday night in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The memorable game included an unusual moment when Staal was sidelined for part of the match following a rare fight, but the evening still proved gratifying as his team secured the victory.
“I appreciate the boys battling it out for me there,” Staal said. “Getting a good memory out of a milestone game and getting the two points. It has been a lot of fun with these guys and all the teammates I’ve played with — it’s been a joy and a blessing, and I’m just happy to keep going.”
Including the franchise’s time as the Hartford Whalers, Staal now ranks third in total games played in team history, trailing only Ron Francis (1,186) and Glen Wesley (913). Before joining the Hurricanes, Staal spent his first six NHL seasons with the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Jordan Staal celebrated becoming the Hurricanes’ all-time games-played leader with a hard-fought win, marking both personal and team success in a milestone night.
