Actress Sally Kirkland, 84, known for her role in Bruce Almighty, has entered hospice care in Palm Springs. Her representative, Michael Greene, confirmed that she was hospitalized following a dementia diagnosis made in 2024.
Her former student and long-time friend, Cody Galloway, is currently by her side, according to a statement given to TMZ.
“Our beloved friend, Sally Kirkland, has graced the stage and screen, inspiring audiences and lifting the spirits of countless many both in and out of the Hollywood community as an actress, teacher, and minister.”
This message was shared through a GoFundMe campaign to support her medical needs. The campaign detailed the significant health challenges she has faced over the past year.
“This past year Sally fractured four bones in her neck, her right wrist, and her left hip. While recovering, she developed two separate life-threatening infections. The combination of these injuries and infections required extensive hospitalizations and rehabilitation beyond the 100 days insurance will cover. As the days pass, lack of proper care greatly diminishes Sally’s chance of a full recovery. However, with the right medical support, we know she has a strong chance of overcoming this setback and returning to the work she loves.”
Fans and colleagues have expressed their love and support for Kirkland, praising her decades-long contribution to film, theater, and teaching. Despite her condition, those close to her remain hopeful that with quality medical care, she can recover and return to creative work.
