DANIEL Wilmering insists the Newcastle Jets will stick to their style of football but knows they must match the physicality of Brisbane Roar on Sunday to secure three points at Sunshine Coast Stadium.
The Roar have gained a reputation as the A-League's "bully boys," known for fighting hard, scrapping, and out-muscling opponents. With two clean sheets in three rounds, they've been tough to break down under coach Michael Valkanis, one of the league’s toughest centre-backs.
"They are a very physical side and will be up for it," Wilmering said. "We have to earn the right to play. We have to match the intensity of any team. If you lose the 50-50s and you are not in the contest, it is hard to play."
The Jets experienced the Roar’s intensity firsthand in a 3-1 pre-season friendly loss in Lismore.
"It was a very physical and intense game," Wilmering recalled. "We want to play our brand of football. If there are 50-50s to be won, we have to win them."
