Xaviah Bascon scored two rushing touchdowns, and Seamus Gilmartin caught two touchdown passes from Jaden Craig as Harvard defeated Columbia 31-14 on Friday.
Bascon opened the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run to finish a 10-play, 80-yard drive. He added a second touchdown just before halftime. In the second quarter, Craig threw two touchdown passes to Gilmartin. One score followed an interception by Columbia’s Chase Goodwin, which Jack Donahoe returned to the Columbia 2-yard line.
"Bascon opened the scoring with a 1-yard rush to cap a 10-play, 80-yard scoring drive for the Crimson."
Columbia (1-7, 0-5) struggled after missing a field goal on their opening drive, with subsequent drives ending in punts, interceptions, or halftime. Their first points came in the fourth quarter via a touchdown pass from Goodwin to Titus Evans. They later scored again and converted a two-point attempt, but failed on an onside kick attempt.
Harvard’s dominant performance highlights their strong season start, setting the pace in the Ivy League with an undefeated record and a continuing road game winning streak.
