Clemson powered past Gardner-Webb with a decisive 97-59 win at Littlejohn Coliseum on Friday night. The Tigers opened the game on a strong 14-3 run and maintained full control throughout the matchup.
Carter Welling, a transfer from Utah Valley, recorded his first double-double for Clemson, coming off the bench to score 14 points and grab 11 rebounds. Nick Davidson led the Tigers with 18 points, while RJ Godfrey added 13 on perfect shooting—5-for-5 from the field and 3-for-3 from the foul line. Ace Buckner contributed an additional 11 points off the bench.
For Gardner-Webb, Spence Sims and Jacob Hudson each tallied 11 points. The Runnin' Bulldogs faced early foul trouble, as starters Julius Clark and Curtis Williams collected three fouls each before halftime and fouled out within 10 minutes of the second half.
With this victory, Clemson improved to 2-0, marking the tenth time in program history that the team has opened a season with two wins by at least 25 points. It is also the first instance since the 2009–10 season that the Tigers have started with back-to-back wins by 35 or more points.
Clemson returns to the court on November 11 to host Morehead State at 7 p.m.
