Spoiler alert: This review contains spoilers for Amazon Prime Video’s We Were Liars Season 1.
The universe of We Were Liars expands with the release of E. Lockhart’s new novel, We Fell Apart, launching Tuesday. This book shares the same world as the wealthy Sinclair family, central to both the We Were Liars book series and the Amazon TV adaptation starring Emily Alyn Lind.
We Fell Apart introduces fresh characters with their own mysteries to uncover. Matilda is invited to spend the summer with her estranged father, Kingsley Cello, a reclusive artist. Upon arriving at his seaside estate, Hidden Beach, Kingsley is missing, but Matilda encounters her half-brother Meer, former child star Brock, and a brooding boy named Tatum. They all live in Kingsley’s deteriorating castle-like home.
While showrunners Julie Plec and Carina Adly MacKenzie, together with Lockhart, work on the second season of We Were Liars, We Fell Apart provides fans with new stories to engage with until the TV drama progresses.
After discovering that her cousins and childhood love—collectively known as “The Liars”—died in a fire they all caused, Cadence Sinclair’s story deepens. The upcoming sequel, Family of Liars, will explore the shadowy history of Cady’s mother and aunts.
“Now that Cadence Sinclair knows her beloved cousins and childhood sweetheart—‘The Liars’—died in a fire for which she and they were responsible, the plan is to dive into the dark past of Cady’s mother and aunts,”
E. Lockhart’s new novel and upcoming TV season deepen the intrigue around the Sinclair family, offering more secrets and new characters to explore in the We Were Liars universe.
