The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) has issued a public warning about Tyler Gordon Strathdee, a violent offender recently released to a halfway house in Vancouver. Strathdee has a history of violent and sexual offenses and is considered a significant risk to the community.
Strathdee is serving an 11-year and two-month sentence for crimes committed in Alberta, including robbery, assault with a weapon, sexual assault, and manslaughter. Although his official sentence expires in 2028, he was granted statutory release, allowing him to serve the remainder of his sentence under community supervision with conditions.
"Vancouver Police believe Strathdee poses significant risk of harm and is a high risk to commit further physical and sexual violence."
This is not the first warning issued by the VPD regarding Strathdee. In December 2024, after obtaining statutory release in Alberta, he moved to a halfway house in Vancouver. By February 2025, he was wanted under a Canada-wide warrant while living in a Downtown Eastside halfway house. He was re-arrested that month and charged with robbery, but was acquitted after a trial at BC Provincial Court.
The VPD continues to monitor Strathdee closely due to his violent history and potential threat to public safety.
