More Land Designated for Parks and Protected Areas in Nova Scotia

Nova Scotia has added 1,267 hectares to 16 parks and protected areas throughout the province, enhancing preservation efforts for natural environments.

Provincial Parks Expansion

The Department of Natural Resources has officially designated 11 sites under the Provincial Parks Act. These sites are already managed as provincial parks, with some equipped with basic infrastructure while others remain largely undeveloped.

New and Expanded Nature Reserves

The Department of Environment and Climate Change has designated one new nature reserve, expanded one existing nature reserve, and enlarged three wilderness areas that provide habitats for at-risk species.

“Protecting more of our natural areas is one of the most effective ways we can fight climate change. Forests, wetlands and coastal ecosystems store carbon, protect us from floods and storms, and sustain a natural balance,” said Timothy Halman, Minister of Environment and Climate Change.

“Nova Scotians and visitors love our provincial parks for their natural beauty and all the opportunities they offer to get out and explore the great outdoors. These newly designated parks will continue to provide spaces for outdoor recreation and education, while also supporting their surrounding communities with jobs and other economic activity,” stated Kim Masland, Minister of Natural Resources.
