India won the toss and decided to field first in the third T20I against Australia at the Bellerive Oval in Hobart. The hosts seized the momentum with Tim David’s explosive fifty off just 23 balls after early strikes by Varun Chakaravarthy and Arshdeep Singh.
Tim David continued his impressive run, scoring 74 off 38 balls before being dismissed by Shivam Dube, who found Tilak Varma at long-off. Marcus Stoinis later took charge in the final overs, reaching his fifty by smashing three boundaries off Arshdeep Singh.
India’s bowlers began well. Varun Chakaravarthy dismissed Mitchell Marsh for 11, caught by Tilak Varma, and bowled Mitchell Owen for a golden duck on the following ball. Arshdeep Singh added early breakthroughs too.
However, Matthew Short’s powerful shot off Abhishek Sharma led to a missed catch at the boundary by Arshdeep Singh, allowing Australia to keep the scoreboard ticking. Stoinis also survived a close call when a low catch by Rinku Singh was declared ‘not out’ after the third umpire confirmed it had bounced.
“The team needs a bold reset; the batting order lacks clarity and consistency,” said former cricketer Srikkanth, criticizing India’s recent collapse in Melbourne.
With Australia leading the five-match series 1–0, this match became crucial for India to stay alive in the contest and avoid a series defeat. Skipper Suryakumar Yadav hoped for a turnaround after the previous loss.
Australia maintained their dominance as Tim David and Marcus Stoinis powered the hosts to a strong total, while India struggled to convert early breakthroughs into lasting pressure.
