Jennifer Lawrence recently shared how her challenging postpartum period after her second child informed her approach to her latest movie, Die My Love. Speaking exclusively with PEOPLE at the film’s New York City premiere, Lawrence, 35, reflected on how motherhood influenced her portrayal.
In Die My Love, Lawrence plays a new mother grappling with the demands of parenthood. She explained that her own postpartum anxiety after her second baby added depth to her performance.
“I didn't really end up having really bad postpartum [anxiety] until my second [baby],” Lawrence said, noting it gave her “another layer” to work from.
She added that while having children isn’t necessary to play a parent, understanding what a newborn needs was valuable for her role.
Lawrence and her husband, Cooke Maroney, have two sons: Cy, 3, and a newborn born earlier this year. The actress has been candid about her postpartum anxiety in media interviews.
“I just thought every time he was sleeping he was dead,” she told The New Yorker, describing her fears during postpartum.
Jennifer Lawrence’s honest reflections on postpartum anxiety enriched her portrayal of motherhood in Die My Love, highlighting the real emotional challenges behind her acting.
