Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett of Texas is contemplating a run for the U.S. Senate seat currently held by John Cornyn, according to sources speaking to FOX 4 News in Dallas.
Recent statewide polls indicate Crockett may have an early advantage in the crowded Democratic primary field over former U.S. representatives James Talarico and others. On the Republican side, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton holds a slim lead against incumbent Senator John Cornyn for the party nomination.
In mid-October, Crockett told FOX News that her decision would come after court rulings regarding the new Texas congressional district maps and further review of polling data. The redistricting aims to add five new Republican seats to the U.S. House and could alter Crockett’s district if the courts approve the changes.
"I'm still waiting for a final ruling on the new Texas Congressional District maps," Crockett said in the interview.
The new district boundaries present significant challenges and opportunities for candidates as the political landscape shifts ahead of the elections.
