The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a nationwide recall involving three types of tomato sauces because of a possible contamination with Clostridium botulinum, the dangerous bacterium that causes botulism.
As a precaution, consumers are being urged to dispose of the recalled products as soon as possible.
The recall was initiated by First and Last Bakery, LLC, based in Hartford, Connecticut. The company acted after discovering signs of potential contamination that could pose a serious health threat. Botulism, though rare, can be life-threatening if untreated.
All affected products come in 26-ounce jars marked with a “use by” date of September 2026. The sauces were distributed through Big Y and Stop & Shop supermarkets in Connecticut and Massachusetts.
The FDA regularly issues recalls when products are found to endanger public health through contamination, mislabeling, or undeclared allergens. Removing such items from circulation helps maintain the safety of the national food supply.
Consumers are advised not to consume the recalled sauces and to discard them immediately to prevent any health risks associated with botulinum toxin exposure.
