Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman reported that the Toronto Maple Leafs are hesitant and pushing back against a request from veteran forward David Kampf regarding his NHL career.
At the start of the season, the Leafs and GM Brad Treliving aimed to create some roster flexibility. With promising performances from Easton Cowan and an abundance of bottom-six forwards, a move was necessary.
As a result, 30-year-old David Kampf, carrying a $2.4 million cap hit with $1.15 million cap relief, was assigned to the Toronto Marlies to clear cap space.
After participating in four of the Marlies' first seven games, Kampf chose to take a leave of absence and declined to join the team for a recent road trip to Chicago.
