Elder Gérald Caussé has been named the newest member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The announcement was made by President Dallin H. Oaks on Thursday, November 6.
Born in Bordeaux, France, Elder Caussé becomes the first Apostle from France and the fourth current member of the Quorum born outside the United States. Prior to this calling, he served for nearly a decade as the presiding bishop of the Church.
At the time of his call, Elder Caussé was working closely with the First Presidency and other Apostles. He was ordained by President Oaks and the rest of the Church's top leadership.
“I’ve always had a testimony of Jesus Christ. He’s always been at the center of my life. And I know He’s our Savior and Redeemer. What a wonderful thing it is to be a witness of Christ. That’s the best responsibility or stewardship we might have in our lives.”
Elder Caussé, 62, and his wife, Sister Valérie Caussé, have three children and have lived in several countries, including France, Germany, and the United States. His international background reflects the Church’s global presence and diversity among its senior leaders.
Recently, he addressed young adults at the annual Utah YSA conference in Salt Lake City, continuing his long-standing emphasis on youth and spiritual growth.
Elder Gérald Caussé, a French leader with global experience, becomes the newest Apostle, reinforcing the Church’s growing international representation and faith-centered leadership.
