Shock as Nine Star Livinia Nixon Quits After 20 Years

9News Melbourne is preparing to say goodbye to one of its most popular weather presenters this month. Livinia Nixon, the city’s beloved face for weather updates, will sign off on November 18.

Livinia joined the network in 1997 and became the weeknight weather presenter in 2004. Now 50 years old, she announced her departure on Friday, explaining her decision to prioritize family as her sons enter their senior school years.

"After 20 years presenting weather on 9News, I've decided to step back from this role," Livinia said. "My sons will both be in high school and I want to be there to support them. It's been a privilege to be welcomed into viewers' homes for so long, but this is the right time for my family."

Continuing, she expressed gratitude for the role that shaped her career and life but emphasized the importance of this choice for her personally.

"Presenting the weather has shaped my life and career. I owe this role everything but this is the right decision for me," she said. "When I discussed it with our boys, they said, 'We're pretty excited to spend more time with you, Mum.'"

While Livinia is stepping down as the weeknight weather presenter, she will remain with the Nine Network in an undisclosed capacity.

Summary

After more than two decades as 9News Melbourne’s weather presenter, Livinia Nixon is leaving to focus on her family as her sons enter high school, but she will stay with the network in another role.
