Several individuals became sick at Joint Base Andrews, a US military facility near Washington, after a suspicious package arrived containing an unknown white powder. The package was opened inside one of the base's buildings, triggering a health response.
Following the incident, the building where the package was opened, which also accommodates the Air National Guard Readiness Center, was evacuated along with an adjoining structure. A security perimeter was established around the area as a precaution.
“As a precaution, the building and connecting building (at the base) were evacuated, and a cordon was established around the area,” Joint Base Andrews stated.
The affected individuals were transported to the on-base Malcolm Grove Medical Center for treatment. First responders arrived promptly and found no immediate threats, subsequently handing the investigation over to the Office of Special Investigations.
