A 44-year-old man from Roermond died early Saturday morning after a head-on collision on Heythuyserweg (N279), authorities reported.
The crash happened around 12:40 a.m. when the man driving toward Horn crossed into the lane of an oncoming vehicle, according to De Limburger.
The road was closed for an extended period to allow authorities to carry out their work.
The Traffic Investigation Team and the Forensic Traffic Team are continuing their investigation into the crash.
"Emergency responders, including a trauma helicopter, rushed to the scene. Officers immediately attempted to resuscitate the driver, but his injuries were fatal, and he was pronounced dead at the scene."
