OpenAI earlier released the GPT-5.6 on July 9, 2026.
The model is billed as the extremely token-efficient AI for coding,, with a 54% improvement over prior versions.
OpenAI said the launch was delayed to satisfy enhanced U.S. cybersecurity measures.
GPT-5.6 is expected to reduce compute costs for developers and accelerate code generation.
OpenAI also combined Codex into its desktop application, now named ChatGPT Work, and bundled the new model inside.
Sea announced a joint effort to host a regional coding hackathon in Singapore in August.
The event will target students, future startups and developers looking to experiment with the new tools.
