Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James will not join the team for their upcoming five-game road trip starting Saturday as he recovers from right-side sciatica, according to ESPN’s Shams Charania.
Charania noted that James’ next step in rehab involves 5-on-5 live play, which could occur against G League competitors or after the team returns from the road trip in November. Lakers personnel expect his return to be around mid-November.
The Lakers revealed in September that James was experiencing nerve irritation in his glute, sidelining him for the preseason. The team later confirmed he would miss the season opener against the Golden State Warriors due to the sciatica.
Despite being the oldest player in the NBA at 41, James has stayed relatively healthy in recent years, playing 71 games two seasons ago and 70 games during the 2024-25 season. He averaged 24.4 points, 8.2 assists, and 7.8 rebounds per game.
With James sidelined, the Lakers have started the season strong with a 6-2 record. Thanks to star Luka Dončić, the team does not rely solely on James.
