The San Jose Sharks ended Seattle’s strong homestand on a rough note with a dominant 6-1 win. The Kraken managed to earn six out of a possible ten points across five home games, finishing the run with a 2-1-2 record.
Seattle’s only bright moment came when Ryan Winterton scored his first NHL goal late in the first period, tying the score at 1-1. However, San Jose reclaimed the lead just over two minutes later and maintained control the rest of the way.
The Sharks extended their advantage with a power play goal in the second period and netted two early ones in the third, forcing goalie Joey Daccord out of the game. Matt Murray came in relief, but San Jose’s Tyler Toffoli quickly beat him on a breakaway, pushing the score to 6-1.
Seattle now embarks on a Central Division road trip to face St. Louis (4-8-2) and Dallas (7-3-3) before returning home for another three-game stint, ending once again against San Jose.
Collecting 60 percent of standings points would have earned a wild-card postseason bid last season.
The Kraken wrapped up a mixed homestand, achieving solid results but closing with a one-sided defeat, leaving lessons to apply before their upcoming road battles.
