Former Australian captain Steve Waugh praised India’s leading fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah, describing him as a match-winner and one of the most impactful bowlers in modern cricket.
Speaking from Queensland, Australia, Waugh commented on Bumrah’s approach to the game and his understanding of his own body. He stated that Bumrah knows how to manage his workload and should continue playing regularly whenever he feels fit.
"I think as a captain you'd be selfish and say I want you to play every game because he's such a great bowler and he's capable of winning matches," said Waugh.
"At his age, and with the amount of cricket he's played, he knows his body better than anyone else," he added.
Waugh affirmed that playing for one’s country is a privilege that competitors like Bumrah deeply value.
"Players like Bumrah want to play as much as they can. It's a real privilege to play for your country. You never know when your last game is," Waugh stated.
He emphasized that when an athlete feels ready, they should seize the opportunity to compete and represent their nation, rather than hold back to conserve energy.
"If I were someone like him, I'd play as much as I can. Don’t think about resting or saving energy. If you're ready, go out and play for your country," he concluded.
Steve Waugh lauded Jasprit Bumrah’s relentless drive and advised him to keep playing with passion and pride whenever he feels fit for the game.
