A section of the Green Trail at Birmingham Park in Milton is temporarily closed to restore local habitats and support wildlife.
The closed portion runs along the northern edge near the Little River. This measure is part of the City of Milton's recent initiative to aid environmental recovery.
The restoration supports local species such as box turtles, snakes, and armadillos that live in the area.
Volunteers from the Young Men’s Service Chapter are helping city staff manage the closure and maintain protective signage around the restoration site.
The project also aims to conserve river cane, an important plant species critical to the local ecosystem.
While this part of the Green Trail is closed, other trails within Birmingham Park’s 200 acres remain open for visitors.
"The closure aims to support environmental recovery efforts benefiting local species, including box turtles, snakes, and armadillos that inhabit the area."
