Nassau Police Officer Ian Fogarty Honored

Nassau County police officer Ian Fogarty was recognized for rescuing two teens caught in a riptide at Cupsogue Beach County Park on July 16.

Fogarty, visiting the park with his family, saw the teens struggling about 100 yards offshore and swam out to help them with a boogie board.

“It just looked like it was something that could go wrong very quickly,”

recalled Fogarty, 38. The Nassau County Legislature honored him for his “selfless valor” and named him “Top Cop” for September.
