Democrats have made significant gains in both the Suffolk and Nassau County Legislatures, unseating a Republican incumbent in Suffolk and claiming an open seat in Nassau.
In Suffolk's 1st District, Democrat Greg Doroski defeated Republican Legislator Stark, securing the North Fork seat. Meanwhile, in Nassau, Democrats picked up an open seat.
“In Suffolk County, when we get knocked down, we get right back up and we’re ready to fight,”
said Suffolk Democratic Chairman Richard Schaffer, commenting on the results.
No other incumbents were defeated in either county, although results were not yet final in Nassau's 9th district, where Republican Scott P. Strauss was leading Democrat Juleigh Chin.
