All three parties vying to form the next Yukon government have made claims that strain believably for Keith Halliday. As the election campaign enters its last week, the three parties are revving their promise engines.
Promising an affordable home to everyone is big and bold. Even Herbert Hoover only ran on “a chicken in every pot and a car in every garage.”
The short-term incentives for the parties to promise big are clear. They need to get out the vote. It is, however, a strategy of diminishing effectiveness. Every four years our politicians promise to save healthcare, yet four years later it still needs saving.
