Currently, employers can sack employees for any reason within the first two years of employment.

This affects all workers, but particularly young, Black, and Asian workers who are more likely to be in jobs for less than two years.

As a result, employees can be dismissed without a valid reason and are unable to take legal action.

Most people would agree this is unfair dismissal but that’s not what the law says.

This issue can be addressed by changing the law to protect all workers from unfair dismissal.
