Nanaimo Incorporates Rail Corridor into Long-term Transit Plans
Nanaimo's city council has decided to include the rail corridor in its long-term transit-oriented development plans, recognizing its potential for interurban light rail and active transit.
A motion, put forward by Coun. Hilary Eastmure, directs staff to explore opportunities and create policies supporting transit-oriented development centers, including Country Club and Woodgrove, with clear connections to the rail system.
“We’re doing this review right now. We’re working on these transit-oriented development centres,”
said Eastmure. The motion is part of the city's ongoing city plan review.
