Presidential Pardon for 175 Individuals
The Presidency has announced that President Bola Tinubu's approval of pardon for 175 convicts and former convicts aims to correct historical injustices, promote reconciliation, and advance justice sector reform.
According to Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the beneficiaries of this pardon include:
- Illegal miners
- White-collar offenders
- Drug convicts
- Foreigners
- Prominent historical figures, such as Major General Mamman Vatsa, Major S.A. Akubo, Professor Magaji Garba, Maryam Sanda, Ken Saro-Wiwa, and the eight other Ogoni activists executed under military rule
The move is aimed at correcting historical injustices, promoting reconciliation, and advancing justice sector reform.
