Every year since 1983, Elkhorn Avenue transforms into a costume carnival on Halloween, with locals dressing up as ghouls, goblins, witches, and warlocks to fill their bags with candies and caramel apples.
The tradition began with local photographer Moses Swindler, who reminisced about his trick-or-treating experience growing up in Indiana. He and his wife, Durango, turned their studio into a haunted house to provide a safer downtown trick-or-treating experience for the community's children.
The tradition has been kept alive by the community, making it a frightfully delightful evening for all.
