Hong Kong Tennis Open: Last China Players Exit
Zhang Shuai and Wang Yafan lost in straight sets, while top seed Belinda Bencic continues her climb into the world top 10.
Zhang Shuai and Wang Yafan, China's last two representatives, were eliminated from the tournament on Wednesday. Russian Anna Kalinskaya defeated Zhang Shuai 6-1, 6-1, and Swiss No 1 Belinda Bencic beat Wang Yafan 6-2, 6-2.
"I felt good on the court," Bencic said. "I tried to play aggressively, tried to play my game, and it worked out well.
Bencic, who recently won the Japan Open, has now achieved her sixth consecutive victory. She continues to rise in the rankings, having been "913 or something" a year ago.
