Wiedower Resigns, Special Election to be Held in December
Marcus Wiedower, first sworn into office in 2019, announced his resignation from the Georgia General Assembly to focus on his role at Hillpointe, a real estate development firm.
- Wiedower serves as vice president of external affairs at Hillpointe.
- His resignation triggers a special election for House District 121 in December.
Democrat Eric Gisler is currently running for the House seat in 2026 and may also run in the special election.
This is not the first special election in recent history for Oconee County, following the resignations of Rep. Chuck Williams and Regina Quick in 2017.
In 2017, Democrats Jonathan Wallace and Deborah Gonzalez flipped both House seats representing Oconee County.
