State Rep. Marcus Wiedower (R-Watkinsville) is resigning from his seat, prompting a special election to replace him.
Wiedower, a four-term legislator representing District 121, which includes most of Oconee County and the southeastern portion of Clarke County, cited his desire to focus on his rapidly growing real estate business, Hillpointe, where he serves as vice president of external affairs.
“This decision has been incredibly difficult. Serving in the Georgia General Assembly has been one of the greatest honors of my life,”
Wiedower expressed his gratitude to his constituents and colleagues, and although he is stepping away from elected office, he looks forward to remaining involved in the community and addressing Georgia's challenges, particularly attainable housing through his work at Hillpointe.
