According to Michael Chancellor, "There is a laziness that comes with comfort, with supportive communities and governments."
This laziness has led to a dissonance between the church and the culture in the United States. Chancellor shares his experience at Crescent Heights Baptist Church in Abilene, Texas, where he encountered missionary families on furlough.
Some students of missionaries struggled with the comfort of the American church. Some of those children (we call them MKs) were disillusioned with the “opulence” of the congregations they visited.
These missionary families would often stay at a small missionary residence provided by the church, and their presence was a valuable addition to the church family.
Author's summary: The American church is criticized for its comfort and laziness.
