Asia's youngest country, Timor-Leste, has been admitted to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (Asean) as its 11th member.
According to President José Ramos-Horta, the real work begins now after accession. He stated:
The real hard work begins now.
The confirmation comes at the start of Asean's 47th summit in Kuala Lumpur. Key issues such as Myanmar's civil war and tensions between Thailand and Cambodia are expected to be discussed.
