Recently, I visited Albany, New York, for a brief trip. I wandered without a plan to explore the city, walking along State Street, Albany's original "Main Street" and one of the oldest streets in the city.
I ended up in the Empire State Plaza, where multiple government buildings are located, including the New York State Capitol, where the state legislature gathers.
The Capitol building was completed in 1899 at a cost of $25 million, approximately $794 million in today's currency, making it the most expensive government building of its time.
